Permission and approval

Are you conducting research in other countries?

The focus of this guidebook is on UK regulatory frameworks, and it is beyond the scope of the website to capture the range of ethics regulatory requirements that exist internationally.  But they exist, and if you are conducting research in other countries, it is essential that you:

  • find out whether you need local permission or approval for your work; and
  • allow sufficient time to secure those approvals (bearing in mind that you may need to complete application forms in other languages and through unfamiliar systems).

See our section on international research for more information about these issues.
